Institute for Digital Marketing and Behavioral Insights
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Flexible start date and ending after 6 years
 
We are offering a PhD position in Marketing, with a flexible start (subject to negotiation) for the chair in “Digital Marketing & Behavioral Insights”. As an interdisciplinary chair, we are interested at consumer phenomena at the intersection between technological trends and consumer behavior in the digital sphere, employing a broad range of different methods ranging from machine learning methods to behavioral experiments. Specifically, we investigate the impact of digital trends on purchase decisions, social media reactions, and moral behavior in the digital sphere. What to expect

  • Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation. 
  • Key areas of research: You will have one of the following key areas of research in the field of marketing, with the goal to complete a PhD degree and publish in top-tier journals: 
      • Either behavioral lab and field experimental research 
      • Or secondary data/machine learning-based analysis 
  • Building up a personal network: You will participate in international conferences and gain access to a broad network of high-level scientists from top universities and practice partners in DAX companies, digital start-ups and consulting firms. 
  • Doctoral courses: You will complete doctoral courses and are expected to participate in research seminars. 
  • Teaching: You will start teaching one course per semester after the second semester of your employment. 
  • Co-Supervise Bachelors’ and Master’s Theses: You are expected to co-supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses and support student projects in cooperation with practice partners. 
  • Research and teaching support: You will be supporting administrative tasks related to research, teaching, and self-governance.

What you have to offer

  • Academic degree: You have a Master’s degree (or expect to complete it depending on the starting time) that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU and strong academic record in line with the research focus of the PhD, that is, in one of the following fields: 
    1. Quantitative marketing, empirical methods, information systems, big data analytics, machine learning approaches
    2. Marketing management, consumer behavior, behavioral economics, social psychology
  • Interest in academic work: Strong dedication to writing a PhD dissertation and publishing in top-tier journals in marketing.
  • Experience with empirical research methods: First experience with empirical research methods in accordance with the research focus are required. 
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats. 
  • Soft skills: You have very good presentation and analytical skills, high self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and a can-do attitude.
  • Language skills: You have strong skills in written and spoken English. Knowledge of German is not required but will be considered as plus.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,786.10 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
