A qualification agreement can be concluded after a contract duration of two years (§ 27 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement). Pursuant to WU’s Personnel Development Plan, this position can only be fixed-term for up to six years. Once all objectives agreed upon in the qualification agreement have been fulfilled, the employment relationship can be made permanent. Employees who have successfully completed a qualification agreement are classified as associate professors. From an organizational regulation perspective they belong to the group of professors. Three years after successful completion of the qualification agreement, they are entitled to apply for promotion to full professor according to the By-Laws of WU § 43a.
What to expect
- conduct rigorous, relevant, and responsible marketing research,
- publish articles in the top-ranked academic journals, independently as well as collaboratively,
- participate in international conferences to discuss research with scholars from around the world,
- collaborate with corporate partners and other organizations (depending on research area),
- teach 4 courses per year in WU’s Bachelor and Master programs with each course comprising 22.5 contact hours, which corresponds to 90 contact hours per year or 8 SWS in the Austrian system,
- independently supervise Bachelor and co-supervise Master theses,
- co-supervise and collaborate with PhD students,
- support external funding applications and “third mission” activities,
- and contribute proactively to administration, leadership, and team-building tasks at the department.
What you have to offer
- have obtained a PhD or Doctorate in marketing or a related field, such as, psychology, strategy, econometrics, sociology, communication science, information systems, computer science, economics, or operations research from a renowned international institution at the start of employment,
- must either have completed the PhD or doctoral program outside of Austria or must have completed at least one year of documented academic work experience as a post-doctoral researcher outside of Austria,
- possess state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in experimental, econometric, statistical, machine-learning, qualitative, or other relevant types of empirical methods to collaborate effectively with department colleagues,
- demonstrate their potential to publish multiple articles in the leading marketing journals within a six-year period, e.g., by having published in such outlets already, working on revisions, or presenting a promising research pipeline, depending on their academic age,
- present a research agenda that aligns with, or meaningfully complements, one or multiple of the department’s research areas,
- possess a record of, or demonstrate ambition to, develop and excellently teach a diverse portfolio of core and elective courses in Bachelor and Master programs,
- have experience in multimedia teaching and learning formats, or demonstrate willingness to learn and develop such skills (using WU’s qualification offerings),
- have contributed to, or shown interest in, engaging in third mission activities (e.g., media work, public events, business advisory),
- possesses strong communication skills in English language, allowing them not only to teach in English but also communicate effectively with academic and non-academic stakeholders such as practitioners and policy makers,
- be able to work independently but also be a good team player, shows initiative, take responsibility, and have good self-organization skills.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €4,932.90 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
