Institute for Corporate Governance
Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Starting October 01, 2026, and ending after 6 years
 
to join our interdisciplinary department. We are looking for a candidate who conducts high quality research in the field of corporate governance using quantitative methods (i.e., archival, experimental, or survey) with the potential to publish in the top-tier accounting journals. The candidate is expected to work on her*his own research projects and co-operate with our interdisciplinary faculty and PhD-Students. Next to the research, the candidate will teach courses in corporate governance and related areas in the bachelor and master programs at WU Vienna, and engage in the institute’s third mission activities.
 
This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in research and teaching that explores a wide array of issues related to innovative and effective corporate governance. These include, but are not limited to, financial economics, corporate reporting and disclosure, and (managerial) accounting. Using quantitative empirical methods, our research examines the implications of these focus areas on capital markets, internal control systems, and incentive contracting.

  • Research Projects: Taking a lead role in the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of research projects aligned with the institute's research agenda.
  • Teach and support courses: You independently plan and teach courses.
  • Supervise master’s and bachelor’s theses: You independently supervise master’s and bachelor’s theses.
  • Support organization and administration: You will help fulfill the institute’s administrative responsibilities.

What you have to offer

  • Doctoral degree: You have successfully completed your doctoral degree in accounting or related fields such as economics, management or finance or will have completed it by the start of the position and demonstrate a strong commitment to research through promising publication projects.
  • Passion for research: You are highly motivated to pursue an academic career and you have a clear research agenda in corporate governance or related fields, proven through papers published in high quality journals or high quality working papers (e.g., presented at conferences, papers in the review process…).
  • Methodology Skills: You have strong expertise in quantitative research methods (i.e., archival data, experiments, or surveys).
  • Relevant expertise and experience: You bring profound knowledge in the fields of accounting, corporate governance, or related disciplines.
  • International experience and language skills: You can demonstrate international exposure in your studies. You have strong English and German skills.
  • Innovative Teaching Methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
  • Engagement: You work independently, take initiative, and act as a team player.
  • Interpersonal Skills: High level of social competence and communication skills.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €5,014.30 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
