What to expect

The successful applicant will carry out independent research and supervision activities in the field of Operations Research

We are particularly interested in researchers working in the fields of (combinatorial) optimization under uncertainty and bilevel optimization. The research portfolio of the ideal candidate should comprise high-level methodological contributions as well as applied work in areas such as network design, logistics and transportation, telecommunications, healthcare, counterfactual explanations, explainability and interpretability of ML/optimization models. 

In line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, teaching duties associated with the position comprise 4 weekly teaching hours per semester; they can be in quantitative education programs at WU at the BSc and MSc level, both in English and in German.

What you have to offer

  • You hold a diploma or an MSc as well as a PhD in (applied) mathematics, operations research, statistics, computer science or equivalent. (Candidates who will obtain the PhD shortly after commencement of the position are also welcome.) 
  • We expect scientific excellence, documented by publications in internationally recognized journals, excellent preprints, and presentations at seminars and conferences.
  • International experience is an advantage.
  • We expect the ability to teach in English. German language skills are not a prerequisite, but we expect the willingness to acquire proficiency in German over time.
  • You are willing to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €5,014.30 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
