What to expect
- Research: You will continue to develop your international reputation in research on English language, linguistics and business communication.
- Research output: You will engage in innovative research and publish it in high-quality outlets.
- Research support: You will participate in research projects at the Department and support publishing activities.
- Research funding: You will actively engage in applying for and acquiring research funding, individually and in teams.
- Teaching: You will teach, in any two-year period, a total of eight two-hour modules in the Department's core business communication program.
- Teaching-related tasks: You will be available to answer students’ questions, engage in marking and grading student work, and supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses.
- Teaching support: You will take part in course and curriculum development at the Department.
- Third mission: You will engage in third-mission activities and communicate your own and the Department’s research to the public.
- Organizational tasks: You will support senior faculty in their administration, teaching, and research.
- Academic self-governance: You will engage in academic self-governance at the Institute, Department and university levels.
- Networking: You will expand your own professional network and leverage relationships with external stakeholders for teaching and research purposes.
What you have to offer
- A doctoral degree: You hold a completed doctoral degree in English language and/or linguistics. To be considered for a tenure position, candidates must either have completed their PhD or doctoral degree at a university other than WU, or they must present proof that they have completed an uninterrupted postdoc employment period (in a tenure-track or non-tenure-track position) of at least two years and with an extent of employment of at least 20 hours per week at another university or non-academic research institution.
- Research profile: You have a research orientation that is strongly aligned with the research profile of the Institute for Language and Discourse in Business – and compatible with the overall orientation of the Department – as well as an interest in developing research projects in the field of business communication and English linguistics.
- Research output: You have an outstanding portfolio of high-quality research published in international peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with academic age. Your research is internationally recognized as being an original and innovative contribution to the field.
- Advanced skills: You have strong theoretical and methodological competence, particularly in corpus linguistics, discourse studies and pragmatics, and you have experience in corpus compilation and annotation (and in working with a variety of programs, including but not limited to SketchEngine, AntConc or R).
- Research funding: You have potential for acquiring research funding.
- International experience: Academic experience in an international, preferably anglophone, environment is a plus.
- Teaching experience: You have experience in teaching English and/or linguistics and/or business communication at tertiary level and are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
- Language skills: Expert command of spoken and written English; a willingness to develop a working knowledge of spoken and written German.
- Social skills: You are able to work in teams and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Organizational skills: You have experience in conference organisation, website administration and social media management.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €5,904.00 (14 times per year). In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
