Full Professor of Information Systems and Applied AI
WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) combines excellence with responsibility.
Its rare triple accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA is a guarantee for the highest quality research and teaching in the fields of business, economics, and business law. WU’s research is characterized by a wide diversity of disciplines practiced at WU, allowing researchers to deal with even the most complex of research questions.
International cooperation is very important to WU, and we encourage and support both faculty and student mobility. WU is also very aware of its responsibility to its students, faculty, and staff and is committed to gender equality, equal opportunities, accessibility, family-friendly working conditions, and sustainability.
WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor1 of Information Systems and Applied AI at the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management. Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in Business Information Systems with a focus, among others, in one or more of the following areas: AI/ML/Language Technologies, Business Process Management, Distributed Ledgers and Token Economy, ideally combining different areas in innovative applications. Depending on the candidate’s academic credentials, the employment contract can be concluded either as a permanent employment contract or as a fixed-term employment contract with the option of a permanent extension2.
The new professor will become a faculty member of the Department of Information Systems and Operations. This department investigates novel business models, innovative business processes and disruptive information systems concepts using a multi-method approach, integrating approaches from information systems research, management science, software engineering, data science and artificial intelligence, operations research, cognitive science, and organizational studies. Our research investigates the structure and dynamics of social systems in general and business information systems in particular at the intersection of organizational requirements, technological capabilities, and human needs. In this way, we both contribute to the efficient and effective design of business processes, business methods and business information systems and to understanding the empirical antecedents of the successful management of information systems in a business setting, towards a responsible digital transformation. It is our ambition that our findings help to address fundamental challenges of our time such as globalization, sustainability, privacy and the transition into a knowledge society in a digital economy.
Recent years have seen various new systems being established based on Artificial Intelligence, blockchain and distributed ledger technology, and further disruptive technology advances. The newly opened position solicits applications from researchers with demonstrated expertise in such areas.
