Full Professor of Information Systems and Operations Management

WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor[1] (part-time 20%) of Information Systems and Operations Management with a focus on contributing to WU’s highlight topics (such as Business Process Design) according to WU’s Development Plan[2] at the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management. Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field.

The new professor will strengthen the existing profile of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management and will contribute to research, teaching, and service activities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in the relevant field and to have excellent qualifications. Candidates’ qualifications will be assessed in the context of their academic age on the basis of the following characteristics:
a) Solid academic qualification: habilitation or its equivalent (see department guidelines[3]) in Information Systems, Computer Scienceor a related area
b) An outstanding international reputation for high-quality scholarship in the area of Information Systems with a focus on contributing to WU’s highlight topics (such as Business Process Design) according to WU’s Development Plan
c) Demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals in the field (e.g., journals listed in the WU’s star journal list)
d) Excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as in executive education
e) Proven international experience
f) A strong record in attracting research funding
g) Leadership qualities
h) Gender and diversity management skills
Expectations
The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching activities at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD/doctorate, and executive education), both in the classroom and in distance-learning formats. The holder of this part-time position is expected to teach 2 weekly credit hours. In particular, the successful candidate shall support the department’s teaching in “Business Process Management” (major “Information Systems” at bachelor’s level and/or in the master’s program “Digital Economy”), the specialization "Knowledge-Management" (bachelor’s level) or the introductory courses in the common body of knowledge of WU’s bachelor’s programs served by our department.
Further, the successful candidate is expected to do socio-technical research, with expertise in organizational as well as computational research topics, including applied, theoretical and formal aspects of Information Systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to business process management and automation, covering novel computational techniques, such as process mining or robotic process automation; socio-technical modeling and design of complex organizations, including applied solutions. He or she should possess a high proficiency in relevant research methods. We appreciate applications from candidates who work in emerging areas such as AI in business applications or Industry 4.0, as well as novel research designs, including digital trace data.
We also expect the new professor to take an active role in the university’s self-governance and third mission activities.
