WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor[1] of Strategic Management at the Department of Strategy and Innovation. Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field. Depending on the candidate’s academic credentials, the employment contract can be concluded either as a permanent employment contract or as a fixed-term employment contract with the option of a permanent extension.[2]

The Department of Strategy and Innovation fosters an entrepreneurial mindset across research, teaching, outreach, and executive education, maintaining a dynamic exchange between the academic and business communities at both national and international levels. With a quantitative, empirical focus, our research integrates perspectives on entrepreneurship, innovation, organization design, corporate governance, and managerial decision making in the development and implementation of firm strategies. The aim of the professorship is to provide thought leadership on strategy from an entrepreneurial perspective.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in the relevant field and to have excellent qualifications. Candidates’ qualifications will be assessed in the context of their academic age based on the following characteristics:
a) A solid academic qualification (e.g. PhD, habilitation) in strategic management, preferably with an emphasis on strategic questions in the context of entrepreneurship and/or intrapreneurship (e.g., venture management, corporate venturing, strategic transformation, business model innovation, digital business models, digital ecosystems)
b) An outstanding international reputation for high-quality scholarship in the area of strategic management, in particular in the areas mentioned above, commensurate with academic age, especially by having demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals in the field
c) Substantial skills in applying quantitative empirical research methods
d) Excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as in executive education
e) Proven international experience
f) Active participation in the international scientific community and track record of serving the scientific community
g) A strong record in attracting research funding
i) Gender and diversity management skills
Expectations
The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching activities at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD/doctorate, and executive education), both in the classroom and in distance-learning formats. The holder of this position is expected to teach 8 weekly credit hours.
Active involvement in further developing the Master´s Program (MSc) in Strategy, Innovation, and Management Control.
Active involvement in undergraduate teaching on Strategic Management (in particular contributing to a major on Strategic Management).
Taking over leadership responsibilities at the Institute of Strategic Management
Building and maintaining collaborations with business ventures and established businesses for research and teaching purposes.
A successful candidate complements the department´s profile in research, teaching, and third mission.
We also expect the new professor to take an active role in the university’s self-governance and third mission activities.
