Institute for Cognition & Behavior
Fulltime, 40 hours/week

The position is part of the Institute for Cognition and Behavior headed by Prof. Susann Fiedler. The successful candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary research initiative “Belief Update in Society”, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). This project focuses on investigating the dynamics of core belief formation, exploring how attention, arousal, and cognitive processes interact to shape and sustain beliefs. This project examines the formation and revision of core beliefs, focusing on the role of attention, arousal, and cognitive mechanisms in sustaining and updating belief systems. The candidate will conduct a set of process tracing studies (i.e., eye-tracking and mouselab). Special attention will be given to metacognitive and emotional factors in belief persistence. 

What to expect

  • Plan, execute, and analyze quantitative, representative population experiments as well as process-tracing experiments
  • Produce comprehensive reports, including datasets and statistical analyses
  • Attendance of international conferences
  • Publication of research projects in international journals

What you have to offer

  • PhD degree in psychology
  • Strong background in programming (in Python / PsychoPy, JavaScript / jsPsych) and analyses of eye-tracking data 
  • Strong background in statistical modeling of cross-dependent data structures, including (Bayesian) mixed-effects modeling (e.g., in R or Stan)
  • Strong motivation to contribute to the interdisciplinary agenda of the institute and the project
  • Fluency in German and English required
  • Highly motivated, curious, well organized, team player
  • You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats or are at least willing to learn

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €4,932.90 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
