Department of Economics
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting March 01, 2026, and ending after 3 years
 
The successful candidate will work as a pre-doctoral researcher on an FWF-funded project in applied microeconomics, actively developing a PhD dissertation, collecting and analyzing unique historical microdata, conducting advanced econometric analysis, and contributing to co-authored research papers. The position involves close collaboration with the project PIs at WU Vienna and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and integration into an international research network, including collaborators at Harvard University and Sciences Po.

What to expect

  • Active work on a PhD dissertation in economics within an FWF-funded research project (see: https://sites.google.com/view/option-south-tyrol/start)
  • Close collaboration with the project PIs at WU Vienna and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and integration into an international research network, including collaborators at Harvard University and Sciences Po
  • Co-authorship on academic publications with members of the research team
  • Development of independent research ideas leading to publishable papers
  • Collection, digitization, and analysis of unique historical microdata
  • Advanced econometric analysis and quantitative empirical work
  • Participation in research seminars, workshops, and academic events at the department
  • Presentation of research results at international conferences

What you have to offer

  • Completed Master’s degree in Economics or a related field
  • Motivation to pursue a PhD in economics
  • Strong quantitative and econometric skills
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. Stata, R)
  • Excellent command of English; German or Italian an asset

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
