Institute for Human Resource Management
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting October 01, 2026, and ending after 6 years
 
You want to understand how technical and social developments in societies influence the management of work and people in organizations, and pass on your findings to students in the classroom? This position opens doors to either an academic career or a later switch to a career in business.

What to expect

  • Research with impact: The Institute for Human Resource Management focuses on issues related to contextualized HRM. This means we examine technical and social developments in society and their effects on HRM in organizations. You will make a valuable contribution to this research by supporting empirical projects and academic publications.
  • Writing a dissertation: You will conduct research within contextual HRM on a topic that is close to your heart spending one-third of your working hours on writing your dissertation.
  • Working in a team: At the Institute for Human Resource Management, collaboration and mutual support are priorities. Together, we make a significant contribution to the advancement of our field.
  • Building a lasting network: You will attend and co-organize international conferences and engage in dialogue with research partners and peers.
  • Teaching students: You will plan and conduct courses and contribute to the administration of exams and evaluations.
  • Advising students: You will be available to answer students’ questions, provide feedback on seminar papers, and serve as a co-advisor for bachelor’s theses
  • Performing organizational tasks: You will assist in the organization of teaching, research and university life.

What you have to offer

  • Academic degree: You hold a diploma/master’s degree in a social science or business discipline (such as business administration, management, or sociology) qualifying you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
  • Passion for research: You are motivated to delve into socially relevant research questions and publish your work in prestigious journals. 
  • Content expertise: You have solid knowledge in the areas of human resource management, organizations, work and labor relations.
  • Methodological skills: You have a solid knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and the relevant software (such as R, SPSS, or Stata, MAXQDA, NVivo, or Atlas) for conducting empirical analyses. 
  • Language skills: You have excellent German and English skills and can express yourself very well in both languages, orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are capable of and willing to teach courses in German and English using multimedia formats. 
  • Personal qualities: You are curious, interested, and proactive. You can work independently but are also willing to contribute cooperatively as part of a team.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
