Institute for Ecological Economics
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting June 01, 2025, and ending after 4 years

You want to deepen your research interests in Ecological Economics while gaining your first teaching experience? This position opens doors to careers in academia or the policy arena. 

What to expect

  • Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation.
  • Contribution: You will be contributing to one of the Research Areas of the Institute for Ecological Economics.
  • Teaching: Teach courses of the Department Socioeconomics.
  • Co-Supervise: You will be co-supervising Bachelor theses.
  • Writing proposals: Help with writing of grant proposals.
  • Participation: Contribute to the general activities of the Institute and the Department.

What you have to offer

  • Academic degree: You have an MSc/MA in Ecological Economics, Socioeconomics, Economics or related fields  that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
  • Research interest: A strong research interest and evidence of publication potential.
  • Expertise in ecological economics: A good knowledge of ecological economics.
  • Quantitative research: Demonstrated expertise and interest in conducting quantitative research (statistical analysis or stock-flow consistent input-output modelling or postgrowth modelling). 
  • Originality: A demonstrable capacity for original thought.
  • Interdisciplinarity: Ability to engage with and integrate different disciplinary perspectives.
  • Teaching experience: You have teaching experience especially in (ecological) economics and/or sustainability, is a plus.
  • Research experience: Research experience in national or international projects is a plus.
  • Language skills: Excellent written and communication skills in English (knowledge of German welcome but not required).
  • Working style: The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team effort; and to respect tight deadlines.
  • Soft skills: You have good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,786.10 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
