What to expect
- Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation.
- Research, for yourself and others: You will be supporting publishing activities at the institute, collecting empirical data, and disseminating relevant research findings to practitioners as well as the wider public.
- Conduct and supervise teaching: You will be planning and teaching courses and contributing to holding exams and evaluations.
- Student support: You will be available to answer students’ questions, provide feedback on seminar papers, and act as a co-advisor for bachelor’s theses.
- Performing organizational and administrative tasks: You will be collaborating in the organization of teaching and will be taking on supporting tasks in the administration of research.
- Learning from top researchers: You will be getting your own research career off to a great start by working together with renowned researchers in your field and learning from them.
- Teamwork: You’ll be working with a team of 7 academics, including 4 women and 3 men and 2 fellow PhD students. You’ll be joining a dynamic, friendly, and energetic group that is committed to making meaningful contributions to society through research and teaching.
- Building up a personal network: You will be using the pre-doc phase to create your own professional network, connecting with international academics, practitioners, and fellow PhD students from around the world.
What you have to offer
- A relevant master’s degree: You hold a master’s degree in business and management, or in a related field such as sociology, anthropology, or business communication, that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
- Motivated team player: You are a highly motivated, internationally-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- International exposure: You have prior experience with international, global, or cross-cultural topics in work or study environments.
- Interest in consumer culture theory: You possess a keen interest in consumer culture theory (CCT) and are eager to address pressing societal issues related to sustainability, inequality, migration, technological transformation, and etc.
- Proficiency in research methodology: You are proficient in empirical social science methodology, with a focus on qualitative research methods such as interviews, observations, ethnography, and netnography.
- Fluency in English: You are fluent in English, enabling effective communication in an academic setting.
- Language learning willingness: While German language skills are not a prerequisite as we mostly speak English in the team, you are willing to learn the language over time to enhance your integration.
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to utilize multimedia teaching and learning formats and are open to developing your skills in this area.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,786.10 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
