Part-time, 30 hours/week

We are looking for new members to join the team at the Institute for Strategic Organizational Communication in the Department of Business Communication at Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Our societies are facing enormous challenges—artificial intelligence, global warming, and increasing global system competition are just a few of the contextual factors that influence organizations of all types, sizes, and forms today. At the same time, these organizations play a crucial role in overcoming these challenges and implementing and supporting transformation processes. Strategic communication is essential here for sense making, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, but also for dealing with the consequences of a highly polarized information and media society. This position opens the door to an academic career in research and teaching in the field of strategic organizational communication.

What to expect

As a member of our team, you will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration. This includes

  • Writing your dissertation: You will conduct research on your topic and spend one-third of your working time on your dissertation
  • Research: Participating in research projects
  • Engaging in international publication and presentation activities
  • Contributing to project applications and third-party funding acquisition
  • Independent teaching (2 hours of teaching per week / semester / after the first year)
  • Mentoring: Performing examination activities, supervision, and support of students
  • Administration: Participating in evaluation measures and administrative tasks at the Department of Business Communication

What you have to offer

  • Degree: You have completed your master's degree in business communication, communication studies, or a related degree to qualify you for doctoral studies at WU.
  • Subject-specific competences desirable in the fields of (strategic, organizational, business) communication, corporate communications 
  • Language skills: very good English skills – fluent in spoken and written English; willing to learn German (if not already a proficient German speaker)
  • Methodological knowledge: sound knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative methods of empirical social research is advantageous
  • Publications and outreach: ideally first experiences in publishing, preferably in peer-reviewed international journals and in presenting at national and international conferences are an advantage
  • IT-Skills: MS Office, SPSS (or an equivalent program for data analysis like R), etc., 
  • First Teaching experience in higher education is desirable, preferably in the area of (business) communication; didactic competences & creativity; you are also prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats and innovative approaches, and to develop and hone your teaching skills

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
