Accounting & Reporting Group
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting May 01, 2026, and ending after 6 years

The Accounting & Reporting Group, headed by Prof. Dr. Katrin Hummel, investigates various research questions in the field of accounting, with a strong focus on sustainability reporting. We maintain continuous exchange with practitioners and examine current, practice-relevant challenges. We are looking for ambitious, self-driven, and highly motivated young researchers who share our passion for sustainability accounting and strive to make a difference.

What to expect

  • Writing a dissertation: You will investigate a research topic in the field of sustainability accounting and dedicate one third of your working time to writing your dissertation. You will receive close academic supervision and mentoring throughout the process.
  • Research exchange: You will regularly present and discuss your research at international conferences and in PhD seminars and will have the opportunity to build your own international academic network.
  • Doctoral courses: You will enroll in WU’s doctoral program and complete doctoral courses as part of your academic training.
  • Teaching: You will support teaching activities in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Starting in the third semester of your employment, you will also teach your own course.

What you have to offer

  • Academic background: Excellent Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field that qualifies you for enrollment in WU’s doctoral program.
  • Expertise in accounting: Excellent knowledge of accounting, demonstrated, for example,  through a relevant specialization during your studies.
  • Research motivation: Strong enthusiasm for current research questions in sustainability accounting and motivation to engage deeply with specific topics in the field.
  • Methodological skills: Solid knowledge of empirical research methods and experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., Stata, R, Python) or qualitative coding software (e.g., NVivo, MaxQDA).
  • Work style and personal skills: High level of initiative and ability to work independently and diligently; strong team spirit as well as excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Teaching interest: Interest in teaching and willingness to apply multimedia teaching and learning formats.
  • Language skills: Excellent command of English; German is an asset but not required.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
