Research Institute for Economics of Inequality
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting August 01, 2026, and ending after 2 years
What to expect
The Research Institute Economics of Inequality (INEQ) at WU Vienna is seeking a PhD Researcher to join the ÖAW funded project lead by Emanuel List, PhD and Lukas Lehner, PhD: “RentINEQ Rent Sharing Inequality and Wage Differentials”. The project will provide empirical evidence on the firm-level drivers of wage inequality in Austria, examining the mechanisms through which rent sharing, monopsony power, and bargaining structures shape the relationship between productivity and wage outcomes.
The successful candidate will work extensively with access to high-quality Austrian administrative data via the Austrian Micro Data Centre (AMDC), exploiting a comprehensive linked employer-employee dataset that covers the entire Austrian economy. While collaborating closely with the project leaders, the researcher is expected to drive empirical work independently and take ownership of specific research tasks.
As a PhD Researcher, the candidate will pursue a doctoral degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) without teaching obligations, integrating into an active research community at the INEQ institute, which comprises approximately 15 economists.
